“Ah, a human cultural institition! This is where I've been wanting to bring you, Boonie. Look well, son! Some day, your oeuvre may instituted here as part of the great works of aesthetic endeavor”
“Bunch, Dada?”
Charles felt the tug on his pantleg. “You want some of my punch?” asked Charles. “OK. It's not your Dumbo sippy cup, so be careful.” With fierce concentration, Elias took the plastic cup from Charles in two tiny hands and managed to ingest a few centiliters of punch without incident.
“What is the nature of beauty?” Ganesh continued, walking ahead of them, apparently enraptured by his own musings. “These are the results of inquiries throughout the centuries!”
“Dwinkie, Dada?”
“More punch? You're gonna pee punch-color and make your Dada think you have a rare tropical disease,” Charles told him as Elias ingested more of the tempting adult beverage.
“But not just beauty! What is the truth, and can it even be divined?” lectured Ganesh.
“Mo bunchie, Dada?”
“You drank it all, Boon. See? Empty cup!” said Charles, inverting the little plastic cup to demonstrate.
“An Boon an gup, Dada?” inquired the boy, his eyes suddenly lighting up.
“You want the empty cup? Uh, OK. Sure.”
“We fill our museums with artifacts that represent a universal longing....”
“Ganesh?”
“...for certainty in uncertain times, and answers to unknowable riddles....”
“Ganesh!”
“...and the infinite....”
“GANESH!”
“Yes?” asked the god, finally turning round.
“Your apprentice is playing with a plastic cup.”
Indeed, Elias was crouched on the floor, the plastic cup on its side, excitedly making the small object roll in semicircles.
“Dada!” he said to Ganesh, pointing. “An gup an rolly an go zirkle!”
Ganesh blinked. He watched as Elias excitedly rolled the cup this way and that.
“A brilliant engineer!” Ganesh gushed, snatching Elias up off the floor in an enthusiastic embrace. “You will be a genius engineer, and create great buildings, and constructing mighty roadways...!”
Shaking his head, Charles stooped over to retrieve the cup. He made to toss it in a trash can as he walked by, but hesitated. He smiled, and instead popped it into his bag, and followed Ganesh and Elias they walked through the museum.
