A real and true tale of fandom creepy
Apr. 13th, 2011 06:13 pmI should be finishing Chapter 44 but got sincerely creeped out by this.
BTW, this is about a real live murder, so if you think you'll be upset, please don't click, OK?

So, ahem, this dude, Mark Andrew Twitchell is, as of today, a convicted murderer. You can Google the details.
Note what's over his shoulder.
Among other things, he claimed he was trying to make a Star Wars fan film.
Now, since my husband is strong in The Force, we have a friend who runs a prominent Sci Fi con in Edmonton (where the dude lives) and a friend who works at Lucasfilm. I mean "friend" in the sense that we see 'em several times a year at cons, husband bounces email with them, I've stayed at their houses, etc. So, peeps we know pretty well.
BOTH of these friends were contacted, separately, by this dude about his crazy fan film. He basically tried to marshall the local 501st, the dudes who cosplay as stormtroopers, to star in the film.
Both of our friends say they got creeped out pretty soon after they met him. (The Bay Area guy only talked on the phone, but the Edmonton dude met him in person.)
Anyways, because of the fandom angle, the news media contacted my husband for comment when he was at the con in Edmonton a couple weeks back. He told them it's unfair to the "90% of Star Wars fans who are not serial murderers." Because, my husband ams smart ass. :D
